Ohana Greenhouse opened it’s doors for the first time in February of 2005. It was an dream that took four years to realize.

I met Steve and Cindy in 2001. They owned a small garden store in Lake Tahoe, CA called “The Farm.” I was a customer at their store, but did not know them personally. We randomly connected when a mutual friend suggested that I install a stereo in Steve’s new boat. From that point on we were friends.

One night, I was over at Steve and Cindy’s house eating dinner. They had been discussing opening a new garden store that would be located on the island of Maui. They offered me a partnership in the venture. I was 19 at the time. I couldn’t imagine moving to Hawaii. I had never even been there on vacation.

Years later I found myself at San Diego State. Unhappily pursuing a career in financial consulting. Steve and Cindy were living in San Diego getting two garden stores off the ground. In less than five years they had helped to open close to thirty garden stores.

Once again Steve and Cindy discussed with me the possibility of opening the garden store in Maui . I couldn’t say no this time. Within’ weeks I dropped out of school. A month later we all flew to Maui. We opened our first store in Kahului.

Since then the family and # of stores has grown. We welcomed twins Hana and Jeremy in 2006. We opened our Hilo Location that same year. Kona opened in 2007. With more expansions planned in the near future.

As for me. I run the stores in Hawaii to this day with the help of some amazing employees. I feel at home here now and couldn’t imagine another place I would rather be.
